\u00a0Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the Continuing Education Unit at the University of Baghdad\/ College of Pharmacy, held an in-person workshop entitled \u201cCosmeceuticals Vs Cosmetics: Why We Choose Cosmeceuticals?”\u00a0delivered by Assistant Lecturer Zahraa Salim Alwan, faculty member at the Pharmaceutics Department.The workshop aimed to demonstrate how cosmeceuticals and cosmetics differ significantly in their purpose and effective formulation.The workshop covered several topics, including that cosmetics are primarily designed for external aesthetic benefits, such as cleansing, moisturizing, or enhancing appearance. They work on the skin’s surface and do not penetrate deeper layers. Examples include makeup, lotions, and shampoos. On the other hand, Cosmeceuticals bridge the gap between cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. They contain active ingredients that penetrate the skin’s deeper layers to deliver therapeutic benefits, such as anti-aging, healing, or treating specific skin conditions. Due to their potent nature, these products often require professional guidance or prescriptions.The workshop concluded that people choose cosmeceuticals for their ability to provide long-lasting results and address underlying skin concerns, rather than just surface-level improvements. They are ideal for those seeking targeted treatments for issues such as wrinkles, pigmentation, or acne.<\/span><\/p>\n
