The College of Pharmacy discussed the PhD dissertation entitled \u201cBrimonidine Nanomicelle Ocular Delivery System: Formulation, in-vitro and in-vivo Evaluation\u201d by the student Noor N. Alwiswasi and her supervisor, Assistant Professor Dr. Fatima J. Algawahri at the Pharmaceutics Department. The study aimed to prepare brimonidine-loaded nanomicelles eye drop as a drug delivery system targeted to the vitreous humor and retina.The study included the preparation of thirty different formulations of several polymers to evaluate multiple factors and their impact on nanomicelle properties, leading to the selection of the most successful formulation after laboratory and animal studies (rabbits).The results showed that the most successful formulation of brimonidine-loaded nanomicelle, consisted of a mixture of soluplus \/ tocophersolan and coated with hyaluronate in the form of an eye drop. This formulation demonstrated the desired and successful properties of delivering the loaded drug to the retina at a higher rate and extent compared to the locally marketed eye drop.The study recommended the importance of continuing the study on the successful and optimal formulations in-vitro and in-vivo, with the aim of developing these formulations and improving their specifications to extended the drug release time, reduce daily use, and increase patient compliance with treatment.<\/span><\/p>\n
