Kathem Alkhateeb, the Scientific Affairs Unit at the University of Baghdad\/ College of Pharmacy held an in-person workshop entitled &#8220;In Situ Gel Oral Spray,&#8221; delivered by master\u2019s student Mawadda B. Mohammed, at the Pharmaceutics Department.The workshop aimed to introduce a novel oral drug delivery approach based on a sprayable in situ gel system, which transforms from a liquid to a gel phase upon contact with the oral environment due to physiological stimuli such as temperature or pH, thereby allowing controlled and prolonged drug release at the site of action.The workshop included several topics, such as the gelation mechanism, advantages of mucoadhesion and enhanced patient compliance, and an overview of key evaluation parameters. These included viscosity, gelation temperature, mucoadhesion strength, spray angle, droplet size distribution, drug content per spray, and uniformity of delivery. Practical testing procedures were also covered, including spray actuation force, plume geometry, drug stability, and storage-related weight loss.The workshop concluded that in situ gel oral sprays are a promising alternative for targeted and sustained drug delivery in the oral cavity. Their application could reduce dosage frequency, improve drug efficacy, and provide a patient-friendly option for those with swallowing difficulties.
