Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the Scientific Affairs Unit at the University of Baghdad\/College of Pharmacy held an in-person scientific seminar entitled \u201cAmeliorative Effects of Butein Compared to Omega-3 Fatty Acids, Each Against 5-Fluorouracil-Induced Hepatotoxicity in Rats,”\u00a0delivered by Pharmacist Ruaa Adnan Mohamed, the MSc student at the Pharmacology and Toxicology Department.<\/span><\/p>\n

The seminar aimed to demonstrate the protective and ameliorative roles of butein and omega-3 fatty acids against 5-fluorouracil-induced hepatotoxicity, with a focus on the underlying cellular and biochemical mechanisms.<\/span><\/p>\n

The seminar included several topics, including an introduction to butein, its sources, and pharmacological activities; an overview of the hepatoprotective role of omega-3 fatty acids and their impact on cellular health; a discussion of recent research findings on the combined effects of these compounds in mitigating chemotherapy-induced toxicity; and a presentation of methods used to assess hepatotoxicity and related biomarkers.<\/span><\/p>\n

The seminar concluded with an emphasis on the importance of scientific research in developing supportive strategies to reduce drug-induced toxicity, encouragement for researchers to investigate natural compounds and integrate them with conventional therapies to achieve better outcomes, and a call for enhanced collaboration among scientific disciplines to improve the quality of future studies.<\/span><\/p>\n
