Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the Scientific Affairs Unit at the University of Baghdad\/College of Pharmacy, held an in-person scientific seminar entitled \u201cEvaluation of the Effect of Ellagic Acid on Cholestasis in Rats”,\u00a0delivered by the Specialized Pharmacist Hamza Ahmed Taher at the Diyala Health Department.<\/span><\/p>\n

The seminar aimed to highlight the potential protective role of ellagic acid against alpha-naphthyl isothiocyanate (ANIT)-induced cholestasis in male rats, and to demonstrate its effects on liver enzymes and the molecular pathways associated with the disease.<\/span><\/p>\n

The seminar included several topics, including an overview of the liver’s role in bile production, an explanation of cholestasis, the limitations and insufficient efficacy of currently approved treatments, the mechanism of liver damage caused by ANIT, and the role of ellagic acid in protecting the liver by reducing oxidative stress and inflammation, as well as improving liver tissue and functions in a dose-dependent manner.<\/span><\/p>\n

The seminar concluded that ellagic acid represents a promising therapeutic candidate for cholestasis, recommending further research to be conducted in order to assess its long-term efficacy and to further uncover the mechanisms underlying its hepatoprotective effect.<\/span><\/p>\n
