Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the Scientific Affairs Unit at the University of Baghdad\/College of Pharmacy, held an in-person workshop entitled \u201cBiological Therapy\u201d,\u00a0delivered by Assistant Lecturer Ruaa Natiq Yahya, a faculty member at the Clinical Pharmacy Department.<\/span><\/p>\n

The workshop aimed to enhance the participants \u2018knowledge regarding the concept of biological therapies, their mechanism of action, and their importance in the treatment of immune and chronic diseases.<\/span><\/p>\n

The workshop included several topics, including an explanation of the molecular mechanisms of monoclonal antibodies in the treatment of oncology and autoimmune diseases, as well as the modern chemical structure designs and their impact on the efficacy of this type of therapy. Also, types of biological therapies, such as gene and cell therapy, and their clinical applications were reviewed. Furthermore, the workshop highlighted the differences between conventional drugs and biological therapies in terms of efficacy and side effects, and emphasized the vital role of the pharmacist in counseling and managing the side effects of these treatments.<\/span><\/p>\n

The workshop concluded that it’s important to enhance academic and clinical awareness regarding the use of modern biological therapies, and to stay updated with scientific developments in this field to ensure the best therapeutic outcomes for patients.<\/span><\/p>\n
