By invitation from the Iraqi Pharmacovigilance Center \/ Technical Affairs Directorate \u2013 Ministry of Health, Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Azeez Ali faculty member in the Clinical Pharmacy Department, participated as a lecturer in the Drug Safety Conference that held on December 4, 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n

The conference was attended by the Ministry’s Technical Undersecretary and a representative of the World Health Organization in addition to a number of important figures in the pharmaceutical community.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Ali Azeez presented one of his applied research projects conducted in collaboration with the College of Pharmacy \/ University of Kufa. The study addressed the role of the pharmacist in guiding surgeons to adopt a method of calculating intravenous fluid doses based on patient weight, ensuring appropriate dosing and avoiding overdoses that could lead to weight gain, increased blood pressure, or disturbances in blood electrolyte levels. The pharmacist researcher succeeded in achieving noticeable improvement after delivering lectures and distributing brochures to hospital physicians, encouraging them to follow the British NICE Guidelines for calculating intravenous fluid doses after surgery.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Ali Azeez emphasized the importance of hospitals adopting the results of such applied clinical research, which clearly contribute to improving patient drug safety and reducing adverse effects resulting from inaccurate dosing, in addition to expanding the role of pharmacists in hospitals. He noted that these studies strengthen the role of the College of Pharmacy in improving the health of hospitalized patients when their findings are implemented.<\/span><\/p>\n
