Kadhem AlKhateeb, The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Pharmacy\/ University of Baghdad organized an in-person workshop entitled \u201cAddressing Challenges of Corruption in the Government Contracting Sector\u201d, delivered by Senior Legal Consultant Murtadha Abdulhussein Hassan and Legal Consultant Mayada Tareq, in the Legal Affairs Division and the Government Contracts Unit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">The workshop aimed to raise legal and administrative awareness of the challenges of corruption in government contracts, diagnose its causes, clarify the legal frameworks for combating it, and propose practical solutions that contribute to enhancing integrity and transparency and protecting public funds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">The workshop covered several key themes, including a historical introduction, the concept of administrative corruption, the legal basis for criminalizing such acts, hypotheses of corruption and proposed solutions, and mechanisms for reforming the administrative system.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">The workshop concluded that corruption in government contracts is not merely a legal issue, but rather a combination of administrative dysfunction, weak oversight, and a social culture tolerant of corruption. Although Iraqi legislation is adequate in terms of legal texts, weak implementation and the absence of transparency hinder its effectiveness.
