The Faculty of Pharmacy discussed the master’s thesis tagged” Insulin Resistance in Relation to Vitamin D level in Obese Iraqi Type 2 Diabetes Patients” ” by Mohanad Faris Raheem and his supervisor, Professor Dr. Shatha H. Ali.\u00a0The study was aimed to investigate the impact of serum vitamin D levels on insulin resistance status in type 2 obese diabetic Iraqi patients; by assessing: glycemic indices and bone related markers, In relation to risk factors for cardiovascular complications (Systolic Blood Pressure and Diastolic Blood Pressure) by assessing: inflammatory marker (high sensitivity C-Reactive Protein) and lipid profile and by comparing the results with healthy subjects as control, and also study the possible correlations between glycemic indices and studies biomarkers. A case-control study was conducted as a multicenter study under specialized physician supervision, in Baghdad\/Iraq, including the Diabetes Centers at: The Medical City Complex and AL- Kadhimiya\u00a0Teaching Hospital, for the period from April 2022 to July 2022. The study included 90 subjects, who were classified into four groups according to vitamin D levels in their serum: Group(1)<\/strong> T2DM patients have normal serum vitamin D levels ( \u2265 22.5ng\/ml), included 22 patients, Group(2) <\/strong>T2DM patients have low serum vitamin D levels (< 22.5ng\/ml), included 25 patients , Group(3) <\/strong>Control subjects have normal serum vitamin D levels (\u2265 22.5 ng\/ml), included 20 apparently healthy subjects\u00a0 Group(4<\/strong>) Control subjects have low serum vitamin D levels (<22.5ng\/ml), included 23 apparently healthy subjects. Venous blood specimens (6ml) were obtained from each participant after an overnight fasting, 1 ml of these specimens were placed into an Ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid (EDTA) tube to be used for the analysis of HbA1c by HPLC method, the remainder of the \u00a0blood samples were placed in a gel tube to measure levels of vitamin D, PTH, hs-CRP , ALP, ucOC , and Insulin, were measured using Enzyme linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) specific kits, The reminder of serum was utilized for\u00a0 measuring total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), inorganic phosphate (Pi), calcium (Ca), and fasting serum glucose (FSG) by enzymatic colorimetric assay, results were analyzed by using SPSS .The study found that Vitamin D levels had significant impact on FSG, TC, TG, LDL-C, and lipids ratios in obese diabetic patients. There were significant elevation in FSG, HOMA-IR, HbA1c, fasting insulin, triglyceride, and lipids ratio, PTH, ALP, Pi, hs-CRP, SBP, and DBP values while significant decrease in HDL-C, ucOC, Ca levels in serum of diabetic patients compared to healthy control subjects. There were significant positive correlation between ALP with FSG, fasting insulin, and HOMA-IR, and positive correlation between hs-CRP and HbA1c, positive correlation for Pi with HOMA-IR and insulin, while found negative correlation between TG and HOMA-IR.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
