Plant Cultivated in Iraq&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">The faculty of pharmacy discussed the <em>Phd thesis tagged <\/em>&#8221; Phytochemical Investigation and Preliminary Assessment of the Pharmacological\u00a0 Activities for the Leaves of <em>Tropaeolum majus<\/em> L. Plant Cultivated in Iraq&#8221; by Mazin Saleem Shakir and his supervisor Professor Dr. Enas J. Kadhim in the <em>Pharmacognosy and medicinal plants<\/em> department.\u00a0The thesis aim was to conduct a phytochemical analysis of <em>Tropaeolum majus L.<\/em> species cultivated in Iraq and assess the antibacterial activity against {( <em>Escherichia coli<\/em>), ( <em>Salmonella Typhimurium<\/em>), ( <em>Pseudomonas aeruginosa<\/em>), and ( <em>Staphylococcus aureus<\/em>)}, antiviral activity { against <em>coronavirus 229E<\/em> }, and cytotoxic activity { against normal oral epithelial cells (OEC) and breast cancer cell (MDA-MB-231)}.\u00a0\u00a0The results demonstrate the isolation, identification and quantification of eight compounds { ( 2-acetyl phloroglucinol,5-O-methyl,3-O-glucoside), (2-acetyl phloroglucinol,5-O-glucoside), ( naringenin-7-O-glucoside), ( genistein), ( methyl caffeate), ( hesperetin-7-O-glucoside),\u00a0 ( arbutin), and ( rutin)} by using different techniques (thin layer chromatography, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and liquid chromatography mass spectrometry).
