Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, The Continuing Education Unit at the college of Pharmacy\/ University of Baghdad held an in-person workshop entitled \u201cTypes of Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay”\u00a0delivered by Lecturer Dr. mohammed yawuz jamal, a faculty member at the clinical pharmacy Department.<\/span><\/p>\n

The workshop aimed to introduce the ELISA (Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay), a sensitive technique used to detect small amounts of antibodies, antigens, proteins, hormones, viruses, and biological drugs recently used in the treatment of many diseases, while providing qualitative and quantitative information about the presence of antigens or antibodies in the sample.<\/span><\/p>\n

The workshop included several topics, like explaining the principle of ELISA technology, which relies on an enzymatic reaction between an enzyme label and a substrate to produce a product that can be measured colorimetrically or chemiluminiscently, the different types of ELISA, such as competitive, sandwich, indirect and direct ELISA, steps for performing the test using 96-well microtiter plates, and preparing and running a standard curve to determine the concentration of the sample and applications of ELISA technology in medical and scientific detection, such as the detection of HIV, hepatitis, and certain cancer markers.<\/span><\/p>\n

The workshop concluded that ELISA is one of the most sensitive and specialized methods for detecting antigens or antibodies, emphasizing the importance of carefully following preparation and cleaning steps to ensure accurate results, and that the use of this technique contributes effectively to medical diagnosis and scientific research with high efficiency.<\/span><\/p>\n
