Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the Scientific Affairs Division at the University of Baghdad\/College of Pharmacy held an in-person scientific seminar entitled “The Impact of Pharmaceutical Intervention on Knowledge, Medication Adherence, and Quality of Life in Patients Using Oral Anticoagulants,”\u00a0delivered by pharmacist Yusr Talib Sahib, the MSc student at the Clinical Pharmacy Department.<\/span><\/p>\n

The seminar aimed to highlight the pharmacist’s role in improving treatment outcomes for patients using direct oral anticoagulants by enhancing knowledge and medication adherence. It also focused on reducing the negative effects of treatment on quality of life, thereby contributing to the efficiency of the healthcare provided.<\/span><\/p>\n

The seminar included several topics, including an introduction to oral anticoagulant therapy and its importance in preventing blood clots; the clinical significance of oral anticoagulants; and patient-related challenges, knowledge gaps among patients using these medications, and issues with medication adherence. It also addressed the impact of anticoagulant therapy on quality of life, the rationale for focusing on pharmaceutical intervention and the pharmacist’s role in patient education, components of the proposed pharmaceutical intervention and its expected impact, as well as the study design and current research status, in addition to future recommendations to enhance clinical implementation and improve treatment outcomes.<\/span><\/p>\n

The seminar concluded that challenges related to knowledge and medication adherence constitute a major factor in the poor outcomes of oral anticoagulant therapy and that targeted pharmaceutical intervention is a key element in improving the safety and effectiveness of treatment. Additionally, enhancing the role of the clinical pharmacist positively impacts the quality of life of patients using this medication.<\/span><\/p>\n
