Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy,\u00a0 Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the Scientific Affairs Unit at the University of Baghdad\/College of Pharmacy, held an in-person scientific seminar entitled \u201c The Artificial Intelligence Revolution and its Role in Pharmaceutical Chemistry,”\u00a0delivered by Pharmacist Zahraa Bassim Mohammed, \u00a0the PhD student at the Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department.<\/span><\/p>\n

The seminar aimed to explore innovative strategies to revolutionize drug discovery through artificial intelligence and predictive analytics.<\/span><\/p>\n

The seminar included several topics, including the shift from trial-and-error to predictive accuracy, demonstrating how artificial intelligence can transform drug discovery from a traditional trial-and-error model to one based on precise prediction of biological outcomes. Also, it \u00a0addressed the sustainability crisis by highlighting the failure of the current model, which spends approximately $2.6 billion per drug with a 90% failure rate for drug candidates reaching the market, and emphasized enhancing efficiency and reducing costs by accelerating the identification of promising compounds without the constant need for lengthy physical experiments, thereby minimizing setbacks in the experimental stages.<\/span><\/p>\n

The seminar concluded by highlighting the integration between humans and machines, emphasizing that artificial intelligence is not a substitute for skilled chemists but a complementary force that enhances human capabilities.<\/span><\/p>\n
