Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the Scientific Affairs Division at the University of Baghdad\/College of Pharmacy held an in-person scientific seminar entitled \u201cIs Inflammation Associated with Renin Angiotensin System in PCOS?\u201d\u00a0Delivered by Pharmacist Alameen Jamal Ahmed, the MSc student at the Clinical Laboratory Sciences Department.<\/span><\/p>\n

The seminar aimed to introduce Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), examine the relationship between inflammation and the renin\u2013angiotensin system in this syndrome, and clarify the role of certain hormonal and inflammatory biomarkers in diagnosing the condition and understanding its pathophysiology.<\/span><\/p>\n

The seminar included several topics, including an introduction to Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), its causes, associated risk factors, the role of low-grade chronic inflammation in its development, the role of the renin\u2013angiotensin system in ovarian function, the study methodology, and the results related to biomarkers such as AMH, Total Testosterone, and inflammatory cytokines, along with a discussion of the implications of these findings for improving the understanding of the syndrome\u2019s pathophysiology and their potential use in supporting early diagnosis and developing more precise therapeutic strategies.<\/span><\/p>\n

The seminar concluded that there is a disruption in certain components of the renin\u2013angiotensin system in women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS),a correlation between inflammatory markers and hormonal and reproductive disturbances, and that some biomarkers, such as AMH and Total Testosterone, have good diagnostic accuracy for detecting the syndrome.<\/span><\/p>\n
