Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb and in cooperation with the Dean of the College of Languages, Professor Dr. Ali Adnan Mashoush, \u00a0, the Women\u2019s Affairs Unit at the University of Baghdad\\College of Pharmacy in collaboration with the Women\u2019s Affairs Unit at the University of Baghdad\\College of Languages held an in-person workshop entitled \u201cWomen and Alternative Medicine: Misuses of Alternative Medicine Stemming from Folk Heritage,”\u00a0delivered by Assistant Professor.Duha Abdul-Sahib Al-Shamma ,a faculty member at the Pharmacognosy and Medicinal Plants \u00a0Department.<\/span><\/p>\n

The workshop aimed to emphasize the importance of regulating the sale of medicinal herbs, integrating health education into community programs, and supporting research to ensure the safe and proper use of medicinal plants.<\/span><\/p>\n

The workshop included several topics, including an introduction to alternative medicine and the reasons for its widespread use, as well as the consequences of excessive use of herbal remedies. Also, it addressed the most common types of alternative therapies, their methods of use, and their effectiveness, in addition to highlighting the potential health risks resulting from unregulated use or use without medical supervision. The workshop further emphasized the importance of community awareness regarding the safe use of these practices and the necessity of consulting healthcare professionals before resorting to them to preserve public health and prevent complications.<\/span><\/p>\n

The workshop concluded with several recommendations, including promoting health awareness among women, relying on reliable scientific sources, emphasizing the importance of consulting a physician or pharmacist before using herbal remedies, and the necessity of integrating traditional medicine with modern medicine in a scientific manner.<\/span><\/p>\n
