Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the scientific affairs division at the University of Baghdad\/College of Pharmacy, held an in-person scientific seminar entitled \u201cFrom Guidelines to Precision Medicine in Kidney Transplant Care,”\u00a0delivered by Pharmacist Sarah Monther Faisal, the MSc student at clinical pharmacy Department.<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0 seminar aimed to review recent advances in the care of kidney transplant patients, with a focus on the shift toward precision medicine, emphasizing the role of modern technologies and biomarkers in improving diagnostic accuracy and personalizing treatment.<\/span><\/p>\n

The seminar included several key topics, including beginning with the limitations of traditional methods in the early detection of graft rejection, followed by the presentation of advanced biomarkers such as donor-derived cell-free DNA (dd-cfDNA) and their role in the early detection of graft injury. Also, it addressed gene expression profiling to assess immune activity and immune stability, as well as urinary biomarkers such as CXCL9 and CXCL10 as non-invasive tools for patient monitoring. Furthermore, it discussed data-driven predictive models and machine learning approaches for risk stratification of rejection and improving clinical decision-making.<\/span><\/p>\n

The seminar concluded that the care of kidney transplant patients still relies on standard guidelines, with an increasing shift toward precision medicine to improve outcomes; however, its implementation remains limited due to costs, infrastructure, and the need for specialized personnel.<\/span><\/p>\n
