Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the Scientific Affairs Division at the University of Baghdad\/College of Pharmacy, held an in-person scientific seminar entitled \u201cSpanlastics: A Smart Carrier for Nose-to-Brain Drug Delivery,”\u00a0delivered by \u00a0Pharmacist Haneen Abdulhadi Kharaba, the MSc student at the pharmaceutics Department.<\/span><\/p>\n

The seminar aimed to introduce Spanlastic technology as a flexible and advanced nano system used to enhance drug delivery to the brain through the nasal cavity, while overcoming the blood-brain barrier, increasing treatment efficacy, and reducing the side effects associated with conventional administration methods.<\/span>
\nThe seminar included several topics, including an introduction to nose-to-brain delivery and its importance in the treatment of neurological diseases, the definition of Spanlastic technology and its composition based on surfactants and elasticity-enhancing agents, the mechanism of drug transport from the nose to the brain through the olfactory nerve and trigeminal nerve, and the advantages of Spanlastic technology, including increased solubility, improved permeability, and enhanced bioavailability, discussed the preparation and characterization methods, including particle size, entrapment efficiency, and drug release.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The seminar concluded that Spanlastic technology represents a promising and effective system for delivering drugs from the nose to the brain due to its high flexibility, ability to penetrate biological membranes, and improved drug targeting to the brain , emphasized the importance of continuing research and studies to further develop this system and transform it into practical therapeutic applications that may contribute to improving the treatment of many neurological diseases.<\/span><\/p>\n
