Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Assistant Professor Dr. Sarmad Hashem Al-Khatib, the Scientific Affairs Unit at the College of Pharmacy \/ University of Baghdad held a scientific seminar delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Samer Imad Mohammed, a faculty member in the Clinical Pharmacy Department, on the study of the association between tumor necrosis factor-alpha gene polymorphisms and the response to etanercept in a sample of Iraqi patients with rheumatoid arthritis. The workshop aims to summarize the Ph.D. thesis of the faculty member, which included a study of the effect of genetic polymorphism in the promotor region of the tumor necrosis factor-alpha gene and the response as well as exposure to the side effects of etanercept in a sample of Iraqi patients with rheumatoid arthritis.\u00a0The lecture included various axes, such as an introduction to rheumatoid arthritis and previous studies that examined the relationship between genetic polymorphisms and drug response, as well as an explanation of the research method, devices, and materials used. It ended with the scientific results reached by the researcher and the importance of these results in the future to choose the appropriate treatment for the patient, which guarantees the therapeutic effect besides a few or no side effects.<\/span><\/p>\n
