Under the supervision of Associate Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathum AlKhateeb, the Dean of the College of Pharmacy-University of Baghdad\u2026.\u00a0The continuing education unit established a workshop under the title (The Use of Computer Design in Pharmaceutical Formulation Development) that was given by Assistant lecturer Zahraa Hasan Falhi, a faculty member in the Pharmaceutics Department.\u00a0Computer-based design and optimization processes have reduced considerably the limitations of traditional trial-and-error experiments, which are time-consuming, costly, and unpredictable. Many techniques, such as artificial neural networks and experiment design, are employed to optimize the formulation and\/or processing parameters.The workshop covers the statistical design of experiments (DoE), generation of mathematical equations, and graphic results, providing an accurate representation of how the responses vary as a function of the factors. The workshop also includes the benefits of experimental design. The great benefits that those optimization approaches offer include fewer tests required to attain an optimal formulation and significant time, effort, material, and cost savings. the ability to estimate interactions, the ability to simulate the performance of a product or process using model equations, and an understanding of the process to support formulation development and subsequent scale-up. Furthermore, the workshop outlines the goals of the overall design of the experiment strategy for drug delivery development. It also discusses the DOE techniques, along with the benefits and drawbacks of each design. Additionally, it addresses how to apply DOE methods and the Response Surfaces methodology.<\/span><\/p>\n
