The Faculty of Pharmacy discussed the Master\u2019s Degree thesis, “Formulation and Evaluation of Ebastine Co-Crystals as Oral Solid Dosage Form” by Zainab Mahdi Salih<\/strong> and the supervisor, Assist. Prof.<\/strong> Eman B.H. Al-khedairy .\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>in the Pharmaceutics \u00a0Department.\u00a0Ebastin\u00a0 is a potent nonsedative H1-receptor antagonist. It is a piperidine derivative that acts specially to peripherally H1 receptors it is a nonsedative antihistamine of the second generation. It is almost insoluble in water\u00a0The thesis aimed to design and evaluate Ebastine co-crystals as a trial to enhance its solubility and dissolution to be prepared as fast dissolving oral film.\u00a0Ebastine co crystals were prepared by using different coformers by different methods and evaluated for their solubility , dissolution and crystallinity.Best co crystals were obtained by using benzamide as a coformer by solvent evaporation method. They showed improved solubility by 235 fold with rapid dissolution in comparison to the pure drug, while the formation of new crystal lattice was confirmed by DSC and PXRD.\u00a0The fast dissolving oral film prepared by using the best co crystals and HPMC E 15 as film forming polymer in presence of the required additives show good mechanical strength with rapid disintegration , complete dissolution within 10 minutes and good stability at room temperature.\u00a0Therefore, it can be concluded that co-crystallization technique was successful in enhancing the solubility of Ebastine to be prepared as fast dissolving oral film stable at room temperature<\/span><\/p>\n
