Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Assistant Professor Dr. Sarmad Hashem Al-Khatib, the Scientific Affairs Unit at the College of the Pharmacy \/ University of Baghdad held a scientific seminar delivered by Ph.D. student Nuha Mohammed in the Pharmaceutics Department, on the 3D Printing applications in pharmaceutical dosage forms.\u00a0The workshop aims to explain the importance of 3D printers in pharmaceutical applications and summarize the Ph.D. thesis on the formulation the floating tablets by 3D printer technique The lecture included various axes, such as an introduction about 3D printers, their types, application, and formulation of Baclofen gastroretentive drug delivery dosage forms in two different approaches using an FDM 3D printer and then comparing the effectiveness and selecting the best approach for further characterization.\u00a0The first approach is to formulate filaments by HME where Baclofen and different polymeric blends will be mixed and extruded, then these filaments will be used in an FDM 3D printer to formulate tablets with different infill percentages which make the tablet float for various periods depending on the design and wall thickness .In the second approach, a GR device for Baclofen will be developed for oral administration with sustained release, thereby maintaining plasma Baclofen concentration for an extended period. Thus, we aimed to design a gastro-floating device by 3D printing technology and insert a sustained-release (SR) tablet of Baclofen into the device.<\/span><\/p>\n
