Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Associate Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathum Alkhateeb, the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the Ibn Sina Unit at the University of Baghdad\/College of Pharmacy, held an electronic workshop entitled \u201cActive and Passive Targeting Strategies for Drugs,” delivered by Lecturer Manar Adnan Tamer, a faculty member at the Pharmaceutics Department. The workshop aimed to clarify the concept of drug targeting and its purpose and to demonstrate its benefits, advantages, and types. The workshop included several topics, including presenting the strategies used to target the drug to specific organs, tissues, or cells, which can be used to treat many diseases, as well as a detailed explanation of the benefits of these strategies, their advantages, and differences between different types. The workshop concluded that targeting the drug to a specific part of the patient’s body increases the drug’s effectiveness and reduces the side effects resulting from it. Also, understanding the mechanism of action of the targeted carriers may facilitate understanding the mechanism of the disease and how to eliminate it more effectively.<\/span><\/p>\n
