Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Associate Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathum Alkhateeb, the Master\u2019s student at the Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department, Russel Muhammad Hassan Ali, has participated in the 15th Annual Midwest Graduate Research Symposium, which is hosted by the University of Toledo, Ohio, USA, to present her master’s research that was supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Ayad Abed Ali Al-Hamashi. The lecture was entitled (Thiadiazole Derivatives as Possible Histone Deacetylase Enzyme Inhibitors. The study aimed to design new HDAC inhibitors incorporating the thiadiazole moiety as a ZBG. The study involved the design and virtual analysis of a series of thiadiazole derivatives using Maestro software. Compounds with a good docking score, which include compounds 6a, 6b, and 6c, in comparison to the FDA-approved vorinostat,.Compounds 6a, 6b, and 6c were subjected to organic synthesis using traditional chemical reactions. The intermediates and final products were characterized by FT-IR and NMR spectroscopy. The cytotoxic effect was assessed using the MTT cell viability assay, which indicates that the IC50 of 6b is 0.66 \u03bcM while the IC50 of vorinostat is 1.48 \u03bcM<\/span><\/p>\n
