Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Assistant Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathum Alkhateeb, the Scientific Affairs Unit at the University of Baghdad\/College of Pharmacy, held an in-person scientific seminar entitled “How to Avoid Stress-Induced Ulcer,”\u00a0 delivered by pharmacist Farah Abdul Kareem, the MSc student at the Clinical Pharmacy Department. The seminar aimed to introduce this disease, its symptoms, and ways to avoid it. The seminar included several topics, including the description of the characteristics of the disease resulting from multiple superficial erosions in the upper gastrointestinal tract that may progress to deep ulcers and do not respond to endoscopic therapy. Stress ulceration can lead to serious complications, including perforation, hemorrhagic shock, and death. Clinical practice guidelines for GI bleeding prophylaxis recommend stress ulcer prophylaxis with a risk of gastrointestinal bleeding. The PPI group was the most widely used drug, according to recent studies. The scientific seminar concluded the importance of preventing this disease by conducting periodic examinations to ensure that there is no bleeding and using preventive drugs to avoid complications.<\/span><\/p>\n
