Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Associate Professor Dr. Sarmed H.kathum Alkhateeb, the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at the College of Pharmacy\/University of Baghdad, in cooperation with the Supporting Committee for Volunteer Work, held an awareness workshop entitled (Food disorders and their impact on mental health) presented by Dr. Zainab Abdelrazaq Aljoori, the medical psychiatry specialist in Imamen Al-Kazemin Medical City and a member of the Iraqi Council of Medical Specialties. The lecture discussed the types of eating disorders (including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge-eating disorder), their main causes, common symptoms, complications, psychological treatment, nutritional education, and medications. The workshop also highlighted the warning signs that may indicate an eating disorder, which requires consulting a doctor. The workshop clarified the relationship of appetite and food with psychological problems, emphasized the role of food in improving mental health, and presented a set of recommendations for a psychologically and physically healthy lifestyle. At the conclusion of the interactive workshop, the questions and inquiries of the attendees were answered, who praised the skill of the information presentation and the discussion of how to deal with a patient\u2019s case who visited the doctor\u2019s clinic two weeks ago.On the same day, the honorable Dean of the College of Pharmacy opened the student painting gallery, which was organized by the Volunteer Work Support Committee in the College of Pharmacy. The aim of these two events was to encourage self-esteem and urge positive behaviors to enhance mental health.<\/span><\/p>\n
