Under the supervision of Associate Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathum AlKhateeb, the Dean of the College of Pharmacy-University of Baghdad\u2026.\u00a0The continuing education unit, in collaboration with Ibn Sina unit at the College, established an electronic workshop under the title (cell culture: uses, techniques and best practice) that was given by lecturer Dr. Shaymaa Abdulzahra Abbas, a Faculty member in the clinical laboratory science department.\u00a0It is known that the term tissue culture means the cultivation of any part (organ – tissue – embryos – single cells … etc.) in sterile food media and not in their natural environment. This technology is a rapidly evolving biotechnology for its scientific applications such as the production of pharmaceuticals that are medically and industrially important, the preservation of genetic sources, the ease of stimulating mutation, the election of beneficial mutations and the production of hybrids.\u00a0The workshop also explained sterilization, preparation of culture media, and how to grow cancer cells and sustain their growth in the laboratory, the process of exposing cancer cells to therapeutic preparations and drugs, studying criteria for the toxic effects of drugs on cancer cells, and how to freeze cells and store them in a cell bank, and their reuse when needed, as well as identifying the future perspective for the development of cell and stem culture, nanotechnology techniques and their therapeutic applications.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
