The competition involves a presentation by graduate students who are in the research stage of their projects in a simplified language easily understood by non-specialists and aims to foster their presentation skills to effectively convey their research to non-specialists. The three-minute thesis competition was first established at the University of Queensland in 2008 and is currently being held in over 900 universities in 80 different countries. This is the first time the competition has been held in Iraq.
