{"id":7174,"date":"2024-09-21T16:52:37","date_gmt":"2024-09-21T16:52:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.copharm.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=7174"},"modified":"2024-09-21T16:52:37","modified_gmt":"2024-09-21T16:52:37","slug":"synthesis-characterization-of-new-isatin-thiazole-derivatives-with-preliminary-biological-activity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.copharm.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=7174","title":{"rendered":"Synthesis, Characterization of New Isatin \u2013Thiazole Derivatives with Preliminary Biological Activity"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 19px;\">The College of Pharmacy discussed the MSc thesis entitled \u201c<strong>Synthesis, Characterization of New Isatin-Thiazole Derivatives with Preliminary Biological Activity<\/strong>\u201d by the student <strong>Marwa Hashim Mohammad Hashim <\/strong>and the supervisor, Assistant Professor. <strong>May Mohammad Jawad<\/strong>, at the Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department. <strong>The study aimed<\/strong> to synthesize different Schiff bases of 2-aminothiazole and <em>N<\/em>-propargylated Mannich bases of isatin and predict their antimicrobial activity (<strong>AM1-AM5<\/strong>). Also, synthesize different <em>N<\/em>-Mannich bases of isatin conjugated to thiazole ring via imine linkage and predict their antimicrobial activity <strong>(MT1-MT5).<\/strong> <strong>The study included<\/strong> several Schiff and Mannich bases formed from isatin that were synthesized. Acetylenic Mannich bases (<strong>IIa-e<\/strong>) were prepared by a reaction of isatin with propargyl bromide and different secondary amines (morpholine, piperidine, pyrrolidine, dimethylamine, and diphenylamine) separately, and cuprous chloride (CuCl) was used as a catalyst. These Mannich bases were treated with 2-aminothiazole to obtain the desired final compounds (<strong>AM1-AM5<\/strong>). The FT-IR and 1H-NMR spectral data were used to characterize these synthesized compounds. Another number of Schiff and Mannich bases obtained from isatin were synthesized. First, Mannich bases (<strong>2a-e<\/strong>) were prepared by a reaction of isatin with formaldehyde and different secondary amines (morpholine, piperidine, pyrrolidine, diethylamine, and N-methylaniline) separately. These Mannich bases were also treated with 2-aminothiazole to obtain the desired final compounds (<strong>MT1-MT5<\/strong>). The antimicrobial activity of each of these derivatives was examined against two species of Gram+ve bacteria (<em>Staphylococcus aureus<\/em> and <em>Bacillus licheniformis<\/em>), two species of Gram-ve bacteria (<em>Escherichia coli <\/em>and<em> Acinetobacter baumannii<\/em>), and one species of fungus species (<em>Candida albicans<\/em>). <strong>The study concluded<\/strong> that most of the compounds were found to exhibit significant antimicrobial activity, and the most active are compounds<strong> AM1, MT5.<\/strong> <strong>The study recommended<\/strong> Screening for anti-inflammatory effects of different final Schiff base compounds.
