The College of Pharmacy discussed the MSc thesis entitled \u201cPreparation and Characterization of Febuxostat Nanoparticles as Solid Oral Dosage Form \u201c By the student Zahraa Salim Alwan and the supervisor, Professor. Dr. Nawal Ayash Rajab, at the Pharmaceutics Department. The study aimed to prepare and characterize Febuxostat nanosuspension to increase the dissolution rate, which may improve its oral bioavailability. Then, fast-dissolving oral films containing selected Febuxostat nanosuspension formula were developed to convert nanosuspension into solid oral dosage form. Additionally, these films were prepared to make medication administration easier for patients. The Febuxostat nanosuspension formulas were prepared using the solvent\/anti-solvent precipitation method.40mg of Febuxostat was dissolved in 3 ml ethanol and then added to an anti-solvent system consisting of 20 ml deionized water, water-soluble stabilizers (L-arginine and Soluplus), and co-stabilizers (Poloxamer 407, Tween 80, and Cremophor EL) in varying ratios. Fast-dissolving oral films were prepared by solvent casting technique using hydrophilic polymers such as polyvinyl alcohol, gelatin, and hyaluronic acid with plasticizers such as polyethylene glycol 400 and glycerin. The study evaluated the film’s thickness, weight, folding endurance, drug content, disintegration time, and in-vitro drug release. Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy validated the drug’s compatibility, while differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray powder diffraction confirmed the crystallinity of the drug.<\/span><\/p>\n
