The Faculty of Pharmacy discussed the PhD dissertation titled” Formulation and Characterization of Cefdinir Nanoparticles as Bilayer Floating Tablet” by Asia Abed Ahmed and her supervisor, Professor Dr. Shaimaa Nizar Abd-Alhammid in the Pharmaceutics Department.\u00a0The dissertation aimed to improve nanoparticle stability by using specific polymers and various types of stabilizers; improve the solubility of poorly soluble cefdinir (as an antibiotic); and improve patient acceptance (pediatric and geriatric) by loading it in bilayer floating tablet.\u00a0The thesis included the method of preparing polymeric nanoparticles (using specific polymers and different types of stabilizers in different proportions), their characterization, and the factors affecting them, then preparing them in the form of a two-layer floating tablet, studying their properties, and studying the effect of storage conditions at three different temperatures. The results proved that the preparation of cefdinir as polymeric nanoparticles by anti-solvent solvent precipitation technique and direct loading into the form of a liquid nanosuspension, then formulated into a two-layer floating tablet, was an effectively practical and stable formulation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
