The faculty of pharmacy discussed the PhD thesis tagged \u201cFormulation, In Vitro, <\/em>and In Vivo<\/em> Evaluation of Rosuvastatin Calcium as Nanofibers\u201d by Ihsan Ali Mohammed and his supervisor, Assist. Prof. Dr. Fatima Jalal Jawad, in the Pharmaceutics Department.\u00a0The objective of this work was to increase the solubility, enhance the dissolution profile, and improve the bioavailability of rosuvastatin calcium (RC), a class II poorly water-soluble (bioavailability 20%) anti-dyslipidaemia drug, through formulating it as rosuvastatin calcium nanofibers (RC-NFs) and rosuvastatin calcium cyclodextrin inclusion complex- nanofibers (RCD-NFs) using complexation and electrospinning (ES) technology.\u00a0 Twenty-four formulas were prepared, and different polymer concentrations and combinations were used, including poly vinyl pyrrolidine (PVPK-30), polyethylene oxide (PEO), and hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC). Three different parameter category groups were evaluated to obtain the optimum value, including polymeric solution properties, the electrospinning process, and an ambient parameter able to influence the formation and the morphology of the final RC-NFs and RCD-NFs.\u00a0The prepared formulas of RC-NFs and RCD-NFs were evaluated for nanofiber diameter, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), dissolution profiles, an in vivo<\/em> study, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). As a result, the dissolution profile is enhanced with cyclodextrin complexation and increases as the particle size decreases and the surface area can be increased due to the reduction of particle size to the nano range with NFs as duo solubility enhancements synergistic effect. This dissolution profile enhancement improves bioavailability significantly.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
