Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Pharmacy/ University of Baghdad, organized an in-person workshop titled “Preparation of Tissue and Pathological Tissue Glass Slides for Examination and Diagnosis” presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Ajwad Awad Muhammed Assomaidaee, a faculty member in the Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences. The workshop aimed to highlight the importance of preparing glass slides from living or non-living tissue samples, providing a detailed explanation of the stages involved in preparing them for microscopic examination and diagnosing pathological conditions. The workshop covered several key topics, including how to collect tissue samples, fixation methods, and materials used in fixation, methods for sectioning using a microtome, and the stages of staining using both general and specific dyes. The workshop concluded with the urgent need to establish a tissue sectioning unit within the college to support scientific research in both undergraduate and graduate studies. This would enrich the research process by providing a diagnostic tool that is of significant importance and necessity.
