Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the Continuing Education Unit at the University of Baghdad/College of Pharmacy held an in-person workshop entitled “CombiFlash NextGen 300+ For a High Precision Purification of Organic Molecules and Natural Products”, delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Ayad AL Hamashi and Assistant Lecturer Russul Muhammed Hassan Ali, faculty members at the Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department. The workshop aimed to elucidate the sequential steps involved in the synthesis of organic compounds, to compare conventional purification techniques with modern methodologies—specifically flash chromatography—and to introduce participants to the CombiFlash NextGen 300+ system, highlighting its role in enhancing the precision and efficiency of compound purification processes. The workshop included several topics, including steps in the synthesis of organic compounds, the history of the evolution of chromatography from traditional methods to automated devices, the similarities and differences between Flash and HPLC, a practical demonstration of the CombiFlash NextGen device, and features and functions of the CombiFlash device. The workshop concluded that the CombiFlash NextGen 300+ system offers high-speed and precise purification capabilities, establishing it as an effective instrument in pharmaceutical and chemical research. Additionally, its utilization contributes to a reduction in the use of toxic solvents while ensuring consistent and reliable outcomes.
