Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the Continuing Education Unit held a training sessions entitled “Applications of different spectrum methods for identification of functional groups in chemicals and drugs”, which was delivered by Assist. Prof. Taghreed Nizamuddin Omar, Lecturer Dr. Sara Sattar Jabbar, Lecturer Azhar Mahdi Jassim and Lecturer Dr. Warood Shihab Ahmed, faculty members in the Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department.
The three-day course included the following: explaining the basis of spectroscopic applications and how to benefit from this technique in the pharmaceutical field with the presentation of its applications on a group of medicines and was a theoretical and practical application.
The course also addressed how to use these techniques in an interconnected manner and how to benefit from them in detecting substances in pharmaceutical preparations whether they conform to specifications or not, as well as estimating the degradation of pharmaceuticals at different temperatures and pH.
