As part of the ongoing collaboration between the Ministry of Health and Iraqi universities, and in a step that reflects the College of Pharmacy/ University of Baghdad’s support for applied research with tangible societal impact, the Iraqi Ministry of Health has approved a new educational booklet for patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). The booklet was prepared by pharmacist Ruaa Tahseen Taher Khudhur, Master’s student in the clinical pharmacy department, under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Basma Zuhair Mohammed Naji , faculty member at the same department and Professor Dr. Faiq Isho Gorial, faculty member in the College of Medicine/ University of Baghdad.

The booklet aimed to enhance patients’ understanding of the disease, improve their treatment adherence, quality of life, and self-efficacy in managing the challenges of this chronic condition.

The approval followed a review by the Advisory Committee for Rheumatology and Joint Diseases at the Ministry of Health, which recommended its use for patient education purposes, provided that all brand names of medications were removed.

This booklet is part of an advanced research project titled “Impact of Pharmacist-Led Intervention on Adherence, Quality of Life, and Self-efficacy Among Iraqi Patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus” highlights pharmacists’ vital role in supporting patients and advancing healthcare services in Iraq.

This initiative reflects the Ministry of Health’s commitment to supporting scientific and field-based projects that raise health awareness and provide targeted educational content, especially for patients with chronic illnesses.
