Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the Continuing Education Unit at the University of Baghdad/College of Pharmacy, held an in-person workshop entitled “Laboratory Safety”, delivered by the Assistant Lecturer Huda K. Ahmad, a faculty member at the Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department, and the Assistant Lecturer Dhuha K. Salman, a faculty member at the Pharmacognosy and Medical Plants Department. The workshop aimed to raise awareness and implement the best practices to reduce risks and ensure a safe working environment in laboratories. The workshop included several topics, including an introduction about laboratory safety, hazard classification, personal protective equipments (PPEs), emergency response procedures, and laboratory waste disposal. The workshop concluded that it’s essential to enhance the safety culture among staff and students within the laboratory environment by raising awareness of potential hazards and training participants on emergency preventive procedures.
