Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the College proudly celebrated the graduation of the first cohort of students from the Pharm D program in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy, under the theme “The Class of Knowledge and Development.”

The ceremony was attended by a distinguished group of academic and official figures, led by the President of the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Bahaa Ibrahim Insaf, Manager of Medical City, Professor Dr. Hassan Mohammed Al-Tamimi, and Scientific Assistant of Baghdad Teaching Hospital, Pharmacist Dr. Kawthar Fares Al-Tamimi. Also present were a number of faculty members and students from the Clinical Pharmacy Board, who shared in the joy of this remarkable academic achievement with the graduates and their families.

Dr. Insaf delivered a speech in which he expressed his pride and appreciation for this academic milestone, emphasizing that the Pharm D program represents a significant step forward in the development of medical and pharmaceutical education in Iraq. He affirmed the University of Baghdad’s commitment to producing highly qualified graduates capable of addressing modern healthcare challenges.

In his speech, Al-Tamimi highlighted the vital role of clinical pharmacists within the modern healthcare system. He confirmed the readiness of healthcare institutions, including the Medical City, to integrate these newly graduated professionals into medical teams, recognizing the positive impact they will have on the quality of healthcare services.

For his part, Alkhateeb welcomed the attendees and congratulated the graduates and their families, noting that this achievement is the result of integrated efforts in education, training, and academic development. He emphasized that the graduation of this cohort marks the beginning of a new phase in specialized pharmaceutical education.

This first cohort included 25 graduates, who completed an intensive academic and clinical training program qualifying them to actively engage in advanced healthcare teams. This milestone aims to enhance the quality of therapeutic services and elevate healthcare standards across the country.

The ceremony included honoring the top students and presenting appreciation gifts to their trainers from the board students, as well as the recitation of the medical oath by Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Professor Dr. Munaf Hashim Abdulrazzaq, all in an atmosphere filled with pride and accomplishment reflecting the progress being made in pharmaceutical education in Iraq.

The Pharm D program is a modern and pioneering educational model that aims to clinically train pharmacists to become active members of the healthcare system—contributing to diagnosis, prescribing, and monitoring patient care. This marks a qualitative shift in the pharmacist’s role, from a medication preparer to a trusted clinical healthcare partner.

This academic achievement aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, SDG3: “Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages,” and SDG4: “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”.
