Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the Continuing Education Unit at the University of Baghdad/College of Pharmacy, held an in-person workshop entitled “Design of Experiment in Pharmaceutical Formulations”, delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Lubna Abdalkareem Sabri, a faculty member at the Pharmaceutical Department.

The workshop aimed to equip researchers and postgraduate students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills related to the methodology of Design of Experiments (DoE) in the field of pharmaceutical formulations, since this approach is considered as one of the most effective modern tools for improving quality and enhancing efficiency of pharmaceutical products.

The workshop included several topics, including an introduction to the basic principles of DoE, as well as to the most important concepts and scientific terminology associated with this methodology. Also, it provided an overview of the most widely used types of experimental designs currently employed, along with an explanation of their characteristics and the most suitable contexts for their application. Moreover, the workshop included a practical component that focused on the application of DoE using the Design-Expert software for the development of pharmaceutical formulations, statistical processing and scientific interpretation of the experimental data, enabling evidence-based decision-making through quantitative and objective analysis.

The workshop concluded that it’s necessary to conduct more practical, real-world applications in dosage form design, as well as to highlight research-based and applied examples from recent scientific contexts. Also, the participants expressed strong interest in the workshop content and conveyed their desire for a more extensive version of the workshop in the future, allowing for comprehensive coverage of all the capabilities of the Design-Expert software in pharmaceutical experiment design.
