Assistant Professor Dr. Samer Imad Mohammed, Head of the Clinical Pharmacy Department, and Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Azeez Ali, a faculty member in the same department, participated as keynote speakers in the First Clinical Pharmacy Conference hosted by Al-Noor University/ College of Pharmacy on October 4-5, 2025, held in the province of Ninevah.

The conference witnessed wide attendance from professors and researchers in the field of clinical pharmacy from various Iraqi universities, along with specialized pharmacists from the Ministry of Health. It included diverse lectures and clinical research presented by postgraduate students and graduates of the Clinical Pharmacy Board, reflecting their daily practice in hospitals.

Dr. Samer Imad delivered a lecture on the PharmD curriculum in Iraq, describing it as a pioneering and distinguished educational model implemented by two pharmacy colleges: the University of Baghdad and Ibn Hayyan University. He explained that the University of Baghdad admits 25 top-performing students each year into this program, which features a curriculum that diverges from the standard bachelor’s track during the third and fourth years, followed by an intensive one-year clinical training at the hospitals of the Medical City complex.

Dr. Ali Azeez presented his student Sarah Hazem’s master’s research, which explored factors influencing treatment acceptance, adherence, and relapse prevention among patients with substance use disorders. The study was conducted at two addiction treatment centers in Baghdad: Al-Qanat Center (affiliated with Medical City) and Al-Ataa Center (under Rusafa Health Directorate). He emphasized the importance of encouraging patients to visit these centers for treatment, assuring that they face no legal consequences, as the primary goal is to help them recover and reintegrate as healthy, productive members of their families and society.

This participation reflects the successful collaboration among Iraqi universities in exchanging knowledge, fostering research partnerships, and advancing pharmacy education programs nationwide.
