The researchers, pharmacist Ruaa Adnan Mohamed, a Master’s student in the  Pharmacology and Toxicology Department, and Prof. Dr. Nada Najii Al-shawi ,have published the results of their scientific research in one of the famous international journals ranked within the first quartile (Q1), known for its high impact factor and distinguished scientific reputation.

The study focused on  evaluating the protective effects of Butein against 5-fluorouracil (5-FU)-induced hepatotoxicity in rats by investigating its ability to reduce oxidative stress, suppress inflammatory responses, prevent cellular apoptosis, and enhance antioxidant defenses through the NRF2 pathway, thereby preserving liver function and histological integrity in a dose-dependent manner.

These findings represent a valuable scientific contribution that enhances understanding of the protective mechanisms of butein, while opening promising prospects for future studies to explore its potential clinical applications and its role in improving the safety and efficacy of chemotherapy treatments
