Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the Psychological Counseling Unit at the University of Baghdad/ College of Pharmacy, held an awareness workshop entitled “How to Avoid Electronic Blackmail” delivered by Prof. Dr. Maysoon Abdel-Zahra Mardaw, a faculty member in the Clinical Laboratory Science Department.
The workshop aimed to raise students’ awareness about the concept of electronic blackmail, its various forms, and how to deal with it. It also highlighted the correct preventive measures to help protect students from falling victim to such crimes.
The workshop included several topics like: key guidelines and advice on how to avoid falling into the trap of blackmail, the proper actions to take when facing blackmail, the importance of early reporting and the role of the family and community police in providing support and assistance.
The workshop concluded that the best approach to dealing with electronic blackmail is not to remain silent and to report the incident early, while also involving family members and reaching out to relevant authorities such as the community police.
Student discussions during the seminar reflected strong engagement and clear interest, with many expressing their appreciation.
