Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kadhem Al-Khateeb, the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Pharmacy/ University of Baghdad organized an in-person workshop entitled “Supercritical Fluid Extraction Technique”, delivered by Assistant Lecturer Essam Ihsan Hamad, a faculty member in the Pharmacognosy and Medicinal Plants Department.

The workshop aimed to introduce the concept of supercritical fluid extraction and its various applications.

It included several topics, such as identifying types of medicinal plants, methods for extracting active ingredients using the most efficient techniques, and their significance in the pharmaceutical industry.

The workshop concluded that employing this technique helps preserve the natural structure of sensitive aromatic compounds. Using carbon dioxide as a solvent ensures the production of pure extracts free from residual solvents, making them safer for use in food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic applications.
