Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the Rehabilitation and Employment Unit at the University of Baghdad/College of Pharmacy held an in-person workshop titled “Drug Abuse Control”, delivered by Assistant Lecturer Yasser Faleh Mohsen, a faculty member at the Pharmaceutical Chemistry Department.
The workshop aimed to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drugs on human health and behavior, as well as the legal penalties, and ways to combat them for a drug-free society.
The workshop included several topics, including the reasons that drive a person to drug use, behavioral and physical signs of addiction, the psychological and mental impacts of substance abuse, examples of commonly misused drugs, and the legal penalties for drug use and trafficking under Iraqi law.
The workshop concluded with several recommendations, such as adopting treatment and counseling programs, encouraging self-help groups, addressing withdrawal symptoms, conducting medical assessments of addicts, and implementing specialized therapeutic protocols for effective rehabilitation.
