Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the University Psychological Counseling Unit at the College of Pharmacy/University of Baghdad organized an in-person guidance workshop titled “Reducing Chemical Pollution in Daily Life”, delivered by Lecturer Azhar Mahdi Jassim, a faculty member at the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, with the participation of a group of students.
The workshop aimed to raise awareness regarding the hidden dangers of everyday chemicals and demonstrate the correct ways to reduce exposure to them, as well as increase students’ awareness about safe practices that reduce chemical pollution.
The workshop included several topics, including the importance of reading product labels before purchasing and using them, in order to avoid harmful chemicals that may affect health. Also, it addressed chemical contamination in food and drinks, explaining the common sources of pollution and ways to reduce them, including choosing organic products and avoiding harmful preservatives. In addition, the workshop focused on the importance of using natural and eco-friendly alternatives in daily life, such as detergents and household products that do not contain strong chemicals, as well as the need to maintain a healthy and well-ventilated home environment. Furthermore, the workshop encouraged community and educational initiatives to increase public awareness and reduce chemical pollution.
The workshop concluded that adopting safe and healthy daily practices, using environmentally friendly alternatives, and spreading awareness are essential for protecting health and the environment.
