Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the Continuing Education Unit, in cooperation with the University Psychological Counseling Unit at the University of Baghdad/College of Pharmacy held an in-person workshop entitled “The Impact of Drugs on Psychological and Physical Health and the Misuse of Medical Drugs / Solutions and Proposals”, delivered by Assistant Lecturer Zahraa Suhail Nasser, a faculty member at the Pharmacognosy and Medicinal Plants Department, and Assistant Lecturer Iman Sattar Razzaq, a member of the Continuing Education Unit.

The workshop aimed to raise awareness regarding the risks of drugs and misuse of medical drugs, explaining their psychological and health effects, and presenting solutions and proposals to limit the spread of this phenomenon in society.

The workshop included several topics, including the phenomenon of medication misuse and its negative impact on public health. Also, it reviewed inhalants and their various types, explaining their health and psychological risks. In addition, the workshop addressed digital drugs, outlining their types, mechanisms of action, and potential complications. Furthermore, psychological, environmental, and social factors leading to drug addiction were discussed, highlighting the role of families, educational institutions, and communities in preventing and reducing the spread of this phenomenon.

The workshop concluded that there is a need to conduct free drug testing for unemployed individuals with limited income, as well as to announce accurate statistics and establish awareness centers to highlight the dangers of addiction.
