Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the Rehabilitation and Employment Unit and the Volunteer Work Unit, in cooperation with the Initiative Club, at the University of Baghdad/College of Pharmacy held an in-person workshop entitled “Creating a Professional CV & Interview Skills”, delivered by Assistant Lecturer Ahmed Majid Hameed, a faculty member at the Clinical Pharmacy Department.
The workshop aimed to educate final-year students on how to create a professional Curriculum Vitae (CV) that qualifies them for the job market after graduation, as well as providing tips to follow before and during job interviews.
The workshop included several topics, including the concept of a professional CV as a formal personal marketing document that summarizes an individual’s skills, experience, and achievements, and its pivotal role in creating a strong first impression. Also, the workshop reviewed the essential sections of a CV, particularly the professional summary, work experience, academic qualifications, as well as technical and soft skills, emphasizing the importance of tailoring the CV to suit each job position. Furthermore, the workshop addressed the standards for including a personal photo, the principles of professional design in terms of organization, clarity, and appropriate font selection, and the most common mistakes that can diminish the effectiveness of a CV. Finally, the workshop presented key tips related to job interviews, including prior preparation, how to answer questions, and demonstrating confidence during interviews, all of which contribute to enhancing graduates’ employment opportunities.
The workshop concluded that it is important to raise students’ awareness about how to prepare a professional CV that enables them to present their academic and practical qualifications with confidence and competence according to approved professional standards, as well as develop job interview skills that enhance their chances of integrating into the job market after graduation.
