Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Pharmacy / University of Baghdad held an in-person workshop entitled “Chemical Foundation of Aging” delivered by Assistant Lecturer Zahraa abdalamir Ketan, a faculty member at the pharmaceutical chemistry Department.
The workshop aimed to clarify the chemical and molecular bases of the aging process and explain the biological mechanisms accompanying the deterioration of cellular functions with aging, while highlighting its importance for pharmacy students in the fields of prevention, treatment, and scientific research.
The workshop included several topics including: an introduction to the chemical bases of aging, their scientific and practical significance, their impact on public health and quality of life, the biological mechanisms related to aging and their effects on cellular functions, methods of prevention and reducing age-related changes, the role of antioxidants and +NAD boosters in supporting cellular health and a review of drugs targeting aging pathways and their therapeutic prospects.
The workshop concluded by clarifying the chemical bases causing aging, outlining prevention and treatment methods, developing pharmaceutical interventions to improve quality of life and extend healthy lifespan.
