Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the University Psychological Counseling Unit at the College of Pharmacy/University of Baghdad, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit, held an in-person awareness workshop titled “The Role of Guidance in Confronting Violent Extremism,” delivered by Lecturer Dr. Hussam Yassin Ali, a faculty member at the College of Islamic Sciences/University of Baghdad.

The workshop aimed to highlight the importance of psychological and educational guidance in promoting intellectual awareness, consolidating the values of moderation and balance, and building a safe university environment based on dialogue and openness.

The workshop included several key topics, including defining the concept of violent extremism and its causes and motives; the role of academic and psychological guidance in the early detection of intellectual and behavioral indicators; as well as strategies for promoting critical thinking, developing effective communication skills, and activating partnership between students and staff in spreading a culture of tolerance and coexistence within the university campus.

The workshop concluded by emphasizing the importance of integrating the efforts of academic, administrative, and counseling bodies and the need to develop sustainable awareness programs that contribute to intellectually strengthening the university community, protecting it from falling into extremism, and enhancing the spirit of responsibility and national belonging in a way that supports academic and social stability.
