According to the directives of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and the Presidency of the University of Baghdad to expand green spaces inside and outside the university campus to preserve the environment and promote sustainability, the College of Pharmacy / University of Baghdad organized a voluntary campaign to plant trees and cultivate the college gardens. The initiative was held under the direct patronage and supervision of the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb.

The campaign witnessed the participation of the Dean’s assistants, several faculty members, and students of the college. It was organized by the Volunteer Work Unit in cooperation with the Agricultural Unit of the college, coinciding with University Tree Planting Day, which falls on Thursday, March 12, 2026.

The campaign included planting a variety of flowers and evergreen shrubs in several gardens across the college. Among the planted species are Acacia, Bougainvillea, Lover’s Blood, Damask Rose, Citrus Shrubs, Cazzania, Beauty Rose Shrubs, and Dodonia, in addition to planting several species in the botanical garden of the Department of Pharmacognosy and Medicinal Plants.

This initiative aims to enhance the aesthetic and environmental aspects of the college, promote a culture of “planting and environmental responsibility” among students, and contribute to supporting sustainable development efforts and increasing green spaces within the university. It also aligns with the major development and reconstruction campaign currently taking place at the college under the direct support and supervision of our Ministry and the University.
