Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Professor Dr. Sarmed H. Kathem Alkhateeb, the Continuing Education Unit at the University of Baghdad/College of Pharmacy held an in-person workshop entitled “The Approach of Writing Research for Undergraduate Students” delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Yawuz Jamal, a faculty member at the clinical pharmacy Department.

The workshop aimed to enable students to understand the components of a scientific article, use accurate citation, conduct research on scientific websites, utilize artificial intelligence tools, and enhance critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

The workshop included several key topics, including a detailed guide on preparing a research paper, divided into main sections: Introduction, addressing problem description and objectives; Methodology, explaining data collection methods, location, timing, and inclusion/exclusion criteria; Results, presenting data effectively using tables and figures without repetition; Discussion, interpreting results, comparing them with previous studies, and outlining study limitations; and Conclusion, summarizing findings and suggesting future actions. The workshop also addressed the use of artificial intelligence tools such as Consensus, Perplexity.ai, and Litmaps for research and visualization, highlighted essential databases like PubMed and Google Scholar, and reviewed reference management software such as Mendeley, Endnote, and Zotero for organizing sources and formatting citations correctly using styles like Vancouver and APA. The workshop concluded that research transforms students from a passive role to an active one in creating and analyzing knowledge and is an essential component for health care students to become evidence-based practitioners capable of addressing critical health challenges.
